IMPERIAL GERMAN M89 SWORD ALEXANDER II OF RUSSIA 1ST BRANDENBURG ULAN REGIMENT - WWI - World War I -Imperial German - model 1889 cavalry sword with a beautifully etched blade ”Ulan. Rgt. Kaiser Aler. II v. Russland (1. Brand.) No. 3” The Imperial German 1st Brandenburg Ulanen (cavalry) regiment was named in honor of Tsar Alexander II of Russia. In World War One, Germany declared war on Russia August 1, 1914. Consequently, the regimental name honoring Alexander was dropped and that etch was forbidden in 1915. In addition to the etched regimental designation, the blade features Tsar Alexander's cypher, mounted cavalrymen, a standard bearer and other military and floral motifs. The spine is also etched with floral motifs. This sword was made by W. K. & C. and bears that designation and hallmarks on the ricasso. The grips appear to be a black bakelite. The blade is in excellent condition with only a few tiny nicks. There is a slight wave 1/2” from the tip. The scabbard retains 95% black paint with some touch up. There are two dents in the scabbard. Overall excellent condition. In-house shipping is available.
