CIVIL WAR CONNECTICUT MINUTEMEN MEDAL NO 480 IDED - Civil War Connecticut Minutemen medal numbered 480 and engraved ”Geo E. ”Hoskins””. The Connecticut Minutemen medal was issued to veterans of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Connecticut Volunteers who responded in April 1861 to President Lincoln's first call for 3 month volunteers to defend Washington D.C. These three Connecticut regiments were engaged at the Battle of 1st Bull Run July 21, 1861 being involved in the attacks on the Confederate positions before Henry Hill. On May 21, 1903 the state of Connecticut instituted this medal to reward those first volunteers. It is believed that only 730 numbered medals were awarded. Records indicate that Hoskins, a resident of Winchester Ct. enlisted 4/23/1861 in the 2nd Connecticut Infantry. He mustered out on 8/7/1861 at New Haven, Ct. On 11/15/1862 he mustered in to the 28th Connecticut Infantry, a unit that was heavily engaged at the battle of Port Hudson. In-house shipping is available.
