PARADE MARSHALL RIBBON DECORATION DAY CLEVELAND OHIO - May 30, 1884 Cleveland, Ohio Decoration Day (Memorial Day) Parade Marshall's ribbon featuring a silk ribbon affixed to a large silk and embroidered rosette with tassels. Measures 9.5” x 3.5”. The ribbon reads, ”Decoration Day. Cleveland, Ohio May 30th, 1884.” Known today as Memorial Day, The first national observance of Decoration Day occurred on May 30, 1868.The holiday was proclaimed by G.A.R. Commander in Chief John A. Logan to honor the Union soldiers who had died in the Civil War. The ribbon is frayed at the bottom and a horizontal split has been repaired with tape. In-house shipping is available.
