CIVIL WAR CDV NEWBURGH NEW YORK - CDV of unidentified officer seated wearing single-breasted frock with shoulder straps and vest. The backmark is for the photography studio Remillard in Newburgh, New York, which is located along the Hudson River in Orange County. Several New York regiments were raised in Orange County. Among them the 124th New York Volunteer Infantry, the ”Orange Blossoms” of Gettysburg fame, came from there and men from Newburgh joined several of its companies. The 168th New York was organized at Newburgh. The 56th New York Volunteer Infantry as well was raised in Orange County, at Newburgh. The photographer Abraham B. E. Remillard arrived in Newburgh from Quebec in 1855 and established a dry goods store and a successful studio at 82 Water Street. The CDV is inscribed in pencil on the reverse as “Army Friend Transient of J. C. Johnson’s Civil War”. In-house shipping is available.
