CIVIL WAR CDV 1ST OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY IDED - CDV photograph of First Lieutenant Edward J. Collins signed in ink on the reverse ”Yours Truly E. J. Collins”. Collins enlisted in Company E (the Cleveland Grays) of the 1st OVI (three month regiment) on April 16, 1861 as a private. The regiment was engaged at the battle of First Bull Run (Manassas). At muster out of the three month regiment he re-enlisted in the 1st Ohio (3 years) in Company D in August 1861 and was promoted Quarter Master Sergeant on August 23, 1861, and later 1st Lieutenant and Quarter Master of the 1st Ohio in May 1863, mustering out with the regiment in September 1864. Collins is listed on one of the panels in the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Cleveland. The 1st Ohio fought at Shiloh, Corinth, Stones River, Chickamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Siege of Atlanta. In-house shipping is available.
