CIVIL WAR U.S. MODEL 1863 ARTILLERY HORSE BIT
Civil War regulation artillery bit that was refurbished after the war, as ordered in an 1868 directive to "tint" the artillery bits. The entwined "USA" bosses were replaced during the tinting process with the sturdier Civil War Cavalry "US" bosses. Both bosses and artillery rings are present along with "US" stamped on the mouth bar and inside the cheek bar. Measures approximately 8.375” length x 5.5” wide. The steel exhibits a nice gray patina. Some tinting remains. In-house shipping is available. Pickup is Monday, April 29th from 11 am to 3 pm in Carroll, Ohio 43112 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
