WWII Nazi German Otto Skorzeny & Wife Ilse Skorzeny Post War signed Letter Lot - Otto & Ilse Skorzeny Typed Letter autograph - signed (TLS) lot consisting of a letter from each to noted military historian and publisher, Roger James Bender. These letters were part of Bender's archives. The March 14, 1974 signed letter from Otto Skorzeny is on his personal stationery and discusses the photographs that he sent Bender. He expressed the sentiment that he hopes ”everything is going well with you and with our book”. Included is an attachment that lists the photographs and documents that he sent via registered mail to Roger Bender. Includes the mailing envelope. The June 10, 1976 signed letter from Ilse Skorzeny was written from Zurich, Switzerland on her personal stationery and is apologetic in tone for not having sent requested photographs to Mr. Bender. During World War Two, Skorzeny was involved in a number of clandestine operations including the removal from power of Hungarian Regent Miklos Hrothy and the Gran Sasso raid which rescued Benito Mussolini from captivity. Skorzeny led Operation Greif in which German soldiers infiltrated Allied lines wearing their enemies uniforms. As a result he was charged in 1947 at the Dachau Military Tribunal with breaching the 1907 Hague Convention, but was acquitted. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, September 13, 1943; and Oak Leaves April 9, 1945. In-house shipping is available.
