WWI U.S. AEF Identified Group - 52nd Pioneer Infantry Regiment - Musician - New York Veteran - World War One grouping identified to Elmer G. Angevine, 52nd Pioneer Infantry, of Endicott, Broome County, New York. Included in this grouping is; 1. Angevine's French Theater made ID identification bracelet that reads ”Elmer Angevine / Musician / 52eme Pioneer / INF. BAND”. The regiment was ”placed at the disposal” of the 2nd French Army on September 1, 1918. This most likely explains the French ”eme” military designation after the ”52” on his ID bracelet. It certainly helps narrow the time frame in which Angevine received the bracelet. 2. Book ”Ypres and the Battles of Ypres ” published in 1920 by Michelin & Cie. Clermont-Ferrand, France. 3. Angevine's 1937 American Legion Foreign Pilgrimage medal 4. 1937 French luncheon invitation to Angevine from des Anciens Combattants et Victimes de la Guerre honoring American Legionnaires. 5. Miscellaneous uniform and clothing buttons, and an outdoor photograph. Elmer Angevine was inducted on May 27, 1918. He served in the 52nd Pioneer Infantry until his discharge. As of July 8, 1918, he was a Musician attached to the Headquarters Company. His overseas service is listed as 8/2/1918 to 4/13/1918. The regiment was formed from the 12th Infantry regiment of the New York National Guard. They were trained in infantry tactics and combat engineering, and could be used for construction or combat as directed by the Army or Corps commander. The 52nd Pioneer Infantry shipped overseas on August 2, 1918, and landed in Brest, France on August 11, 1918. When they arrived in France, they were assigned to the American V Corps and the AEF's 1st Army, 5th Corps and saw action in the Meuse-Argonne. In-house shipping is available.
