Vintage Uncle Sam Mechanical Coin Bank - A mid-century mechanical coin bank featuring a caricatured figure of Uncle Sam. The piece is constructed from molded plastic components in red, white, blue, and gray, mounted to a gray plastic base. The figure is depicted in a traditional top hat and stars-and-stripes waistcoat, standing next to a red podium and a small red mailbox. The front of the bank is decorated with a raised, gold-toned eagle emblem holding a scroll; the scroll is molded with the words UNCLE on the left and SAM on the right. The side of the podium features the word BANK in raised, gold-toned lettering, and the mailbox lid is marked with U.S. in raised characters. The mechanical action is controlled by a black plastic plunger button located on the rear of the base. When depressed, the figure's right arm moves to deposit a coin into the slot located behind the mailbox lid. The underside of the bank features a removable circular gray plastic locking coin trap with a central thumb-turn slot. Two small circular injection molding marks are present on the base plate, but no printed or impressed manufacturer names, country-of-origin marks, or patent dates are visible.
