A Pair of US Military Surplus .50 Caliber M2A1 Steel Ammunition Cans - This lot consists of two US military surplus M2A1 ammunition containers, originally designed for the storage and transportation of linked .50 caliber cartridges. These containers are constructed of heavy-gauge carbon steel and feature a top-loading hinged lid with an internal rubber gasket, a side-mounted tension clamp latch, and a folding carry handle. Both cans exhibit an olive drab green finish with original factory stenciling in yellow. The first container is marked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant with a 1983 production date (LC-83A610L288) and originally held a mix of 100 linked M17 Tracer and M33 Ball rounds. The second container is also marked for Lake City with a 1992 production date (LC-92M621L485) and originally held a mix of 100 linked M8 Armor Piercing Incendiary (API) and M20 Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer (APIT) rounds. One end of the 1992 can is embossed with the markings 92, M2A1, and S.C.F., identifying the year of manufacture, model, and the Steel Container Corp as the manufacturer. Both containers are empty. Measurements: 11 x 7 x 6 inches each.
