Original Hand Colored "Happy Hooligan" Sunday Comic Strip by Frederick Burr Opper (1857-1937). "Happy Hooligan" was a good-hearted hobo whose best intentions always ended up going awry. The comic strip was a staple of the King Features Syndicate from 1900 to 1932, when Opper stopped drawing the comic due to his failing eyesight. The panels have been nicely hand-painted with watercolors as this was a common practice in the early days of comics. The coloring may have been done by Opper himself as a guide to the engravers as the color scheme to use. Piece is signed by Opper in the last panel. Frame measures 30" wide x 22.5" tall.
