Antique Two Person Leather Brass Camel Saddle - This antique custom made two-person saddle with leather and metal work and incising of the brass and silver, over a wood frame with iron supports. The original leather padding is still intact. The front section is with silver open work over copper and brass with a scrolled detail with fine incising throughout. The sides of the wood frame are inset with brass. Approx Age late 18th century to early 19th century. Measures approx 54-1/2” long, 18-1/2” wide, 16” tall. Possibly used by the French military during the Napoleonic Wars by Dromedary camels. Specialized equipment such as this saddle was needed to properly outfit the camels for military use and was made in Egypt. The Regiment des Dromadaires was created upon the arrival of Napoleon's military in Egypt January 1798, the campaigns lasted until 1801.
