Jump Wings, Parachutist Badge, WW2 British Made - Sterling silver jump wings, from the personal collection of General William P. Yarborough (the man who designed the insignia). Assumed to have been British made, given the wire pin and C clasp. Yarborough (American, 1912-2005) is credited as beingthe father of the Green Berets. A WWII airborne commander and designer of the U.S. paratrooper's badge, jump boots and the M42 paratrooper uniform, Yarborough helped define America's special operations capabilities. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy appointed him personally to lead the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center, tasking him with expanding and institutionalizing the role of Special Forces in global Cold War strategy. Measures 1-1/2” wide. Provenance: Consigned by a long-time personalfriend of General Yarborough, one who delivered a eulogy at the general's funeral.
