Gus Grissom Hand Written Letter To His Mother - This hand written letter dated November 8th 1944 and still in the original envelope postmarked November 11, 1944 is signed by Virgil Grissom with the return address from Army Air Force Base Unit (ATE) in Texas. This letter from Virgil “Gus” Grissom to his mother recounts the first “Belly Landing” landing with the wheels up that he ever witnessed. The letter talks about his future wife Betty and an ankle injury he sustained while playing football. The letter was written only a few months after he completed his Basic Flight Training at Shepard Field and only a few months before he would marry his then girl friend, Betty Moore. This is a great piece of history and is in amazing condition. It comes directly from the Grissom family and has a COA from Lowell Grissom brother of Gus and is in very good condition with fold marks from being mailed.
