Major General John Medaris & Kurt Debus Signed Oversized Photograph
An oversized original photograph of the Jupiter C Missile on the Launch Pad in January of 1958. Standing in front of the Rocket is Major General John Medaris who headed the Army Ballistic Missile Agency which oversaw both JPL and Wernher Von Braun's rocket team in Huntsville, Ala. JPL and the Army teamed up to launch Explorer 1. The photograph also shows Kurt Debus who was supervisor of the development and construction of rocket launch facilities at Cape Canaveral for the Redstone, Jupiter and Jupiter C. He was also the first Director of NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida from July 1962 until November 1974. This black and white photograph measures 16" x 20" and is matted to an overall size of 20" x 25". It is in good condition but does show silver discoloration around the edges and a section of the photograph has separated from the matting. It was obvious framed at some point and displayed. It is accompanied by a 8" x 10" black and white photo with NASA descriptive text on the reverse side.
