China, late Qing dynasty
The sculpture is notable for the contrast between the lower part, which shows the natural conformation of a large tree root, and the upper part, which instead presents a fine carving of a bust of Guanyin.

Provenienza: Italian private collection, received as a gift from an Hong Kong collector in the 1970's.
