Doug Alcock "The Piece formerly known as Prince" FMV of $3,000

Fair Market Value of $3,000.  Found, forged and fabricated steel and cast glass. Figurative sculpture. The purple glass influenced the title "The piece formerly known as Prince".

Canadian artist blacksmith.  From the top of a mountain, in between two major lakes in the heart of the Okanagan valley an anvil rings. Found elements nest with forged and fabricated steel, creating metal sculpture with a heart beat...

Doug Alcock’s masterful use of blacksmith joinery blended with the historical artifacts engages the viewer and invites reflection, imagination and touch. Finding hand forged utilitarian elements, works of art in their own right, inspired me to explore more about the ancient craft of blacksmithing. Hand forging techniques are now used extensively in my work approach. Pulling a piece of hot iron from the fire allows a narrow window to work a vision. This is reminiscent of my other passion, bluegrass mandolin. Pulling off a break of hot licks requires exacting skill, drawing from years of practice to know what sequence of notes will make the moment memorable.
