Bidspirit auction | Helmar Turkish Cigarettes Framed Cardboard

Helmar Turkish Cigarettes Framed Cardboard Sign - The lettering is stampled and printed into the cardboard. The cigarette package label is likely glued in place. History: In 1902, the Egyptian Ideal Cigarette and Tobacco Works introduced Ramleh Turkish tobacco cigarettes. S. Anargyros, a subsidiary of The American Tobacco Company, acquired the brand and renamed it Helmar - the reverse of Ramleh - in 1907 to distance itself from competition. Helmar and competitors - Murad, Egyptian Deities, and Mogul among others - issued numerous highly collectible silks, leathers, and baseball cards. Over time, consumer preferences shifted to American tobacco blends, the Turkish brands lost market share, and Helmar was discontinued around 1966.
