MAPPIN & WEBB Sheffield FOOTED Silver-Plated RETRACTABLE Dome Serving Dish from London - This is a Victorian silver plated revolving butter dish, featuring an ornate design with intricate scrollwork and beadwork details. The domed lid is adorned with an engraved starburst pattern at the top and decorative bands with oval cartouches and foliate motifs around the sides. The dish is supported by four highly decorative scrolled legs, terminating in paw feet. A small, possibly ivory or bone, finial serves as a handle for the revolving lid mechanism. The base of the dish is bowl-shaped, designed to hold ice or water to keep butter cool. The handles on either side of the dish are also ornate and functional, aiding in movement. This piece is a fine example of Victorian-era silver plating, showcasing the period's preference for elaborate and decorative table wares.
