Superior hand-painted gold decoration. Hand-painted panel on the obverse depicts William Shakespeare with a young woman in interior setting. Surmounted gilt bronze eagle's head side handles and lid. Beehive hallmark, '24531 Germany', and title 'Shakespeare u. seine Geliebte' on the bototm. Royal Vienna was a leading Austrian manufactory that operated till 1864.
