ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI LACQUERWARE MAKI E BOX - An antique Japanese lacquered copper lidded box. Meiji period, ca. 1860s–1900s. Footed round piece. The domed lid and body are decorated overall in gold maki-e against a black-and-gold ground. The decoration includes mon family crestsinterspersed with phoenix birds in flight and scattered floral sprays, all in fine gold lacquer linework and low-relief maki-e technique.
