PAIR OF CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN BOUGH POTS - A pair of Chinese Canton export porcelain bough pots. Dated early 20th century. Square-section pots, each of tapering trumpet form on a spreading square foot, flanked by two gilt handles and fitted with a removable pierced trellis-form wood cover centered by a coral-red bead finial. Each piece is decorated overall in the Famille Rose palette with multi-figure genre scenes and dense ground of scattered pink peonies and green foliage with a gilt rim border. Bough pots are vessels specifically designed to hold and arrange cut flower stems or small branches upright through the perforations, a form popular in both Chinese export production and later Western reproduction ware. Canton Export is a term used for decor pieces crafted in Guangzhou, the major port for export of Chinese goods to Europe.
