PAIR OF WILLIAM MORTLOCK PORCELAIN BIRD PLATES - A pair of antique English porcelain plates by William Mortlock & Sons. Dated early 20th century. Turquoise green border, gilt octofoil rim. The center of the plates is transfer-printed with polychrome images of birds, oriole and jay. Crowned hallmark 'From William Mortlock & Sons, 18 Regent Street, London' on the bottom. The William Mortlock & Sons company traces back to John Mortlock, who founded a china company on Oxford Street, London in 1746, later run by his sons. The family split in 1809: John's grandson William Mortlock founded a separate shop at 18 Regent Street. His company ceased trading in 1930.
