ANTIQUE KPM PORCELAIN PLAQUE LA SOURCE BY R. DITTRICH - A superb late 19th-century hand-painted German porcelain plaque by the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM), Berlin. The rectangular plaque features a masterful copy of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres' famous 1856 Neoclassical painting La Source (The Spring). The scene depicts a beautiful nude water nymph standing in a rocky grotto, resting a water-pouring jug upon her shoulder. The plaque is meticulously painted and signed in the lower right corner by the noted porcelain artist R. Dittrich. The reverse of the plaque, visible through a cutout in the backing board, bears the authentic impressed KPM sceptre mark alongside the letters ”K.P.M” and the factory letter ”H”. The artwork is handsomely presented in an ornate antique giltwood frame featuring a carved foliate border and a polished wood inner liner. antique KPM plaque, hand painted porcelain, R. The measurements are approximate. Condition Excellent antique condition. The porcelain plaque is intact with no visible cracks, chips, or scratches. The hand-painted surface is pristine, with smooth gradients and exceptional detail. The reverse reveals crisp, authentic impressed KPM marks. The ornate giltwood frame shows minor, age-appropriate wear and light cracking to the gesso, typical of antique frames. Not examined outside of the frame.
