PAIR ANTIQUE EUROPEAN ART NOUVEAU BRONZE RELIEF PLAQUES - A pair of antique late 19th to early 20th-century European high-relief wall plaques executed in the Art Nouveau style. Cast in solid bronze with a gilded front finish, each rectangular plaque features an integral molded frame adorned with grape clusters and trailing foliage at the spandrels. The central oval reserves house highly dimensional, romantically draped figures. One plaque portrays a solitary reclining maiden looking upward amidst stylized botanical elements, while the companion piece depicts an embracing classical couple enveloped in swirling fabric, strongly reminiscent of the mythological tale of Cupid and Psyche. Tears in the sealed paper backing reveal heavy natural verdigris oxidation on the reverse, confirming the heavy bronze composition. Maker unknown. allegorical wall art, romantic relief sculpture, classical maidens, turn of the century art, antique wall hangings, gilded bronze panels, Cupid and Psyche, sculptural metalwork Dimensions Frame: 14 x 12 in. Image: 10 x 7 1/2 in. All measurements are approximate. Condition Good antique condition. The gilded bronze fronts show age-appropriate wear, minor rubbing to high points, and localized darkening. The exposed reverse sections reveal heavy, natural blue-green verdigris oxidation, confirming the bronze composition. The castings remain structurally intact with no visible breaks. The older paper and cardboard backings are torn, exposing the oxidized metal beneath.
