LARGE FRENCH CHRISTIAN LEMESLE ABSTRACT FIGURE OIL PAINTING - A 1965 mid-century Modernist abstract oil on canvas painting by French artist Christian Lemesle (1935–2012). The large-scale composition combines geometric abstraction with Surrealist elements, depicting a stylized female figure in a blue dress suspended on a swing amidst textured planes of deep green, ochre woodgrain patterns, grid-like mesh textures, and a cream panel with circular cutouts. The work is incised ”Ch. Lemesle 65” at the lower right and inscribed ”Lemesle” on the reverse canvas. The stretcher bears a stamped label for Findlay Galleries, New York, with inventory number F3818. Condition Good overall restored condition. The painted surface displays localized areas of prior restoration and retouching, alongside light surface scuffs and fine craquelure. The canvas remains tautly mounted on its original stretcher with keys present. The reverse is paper-sealed with a cut-out window revealing the canvas inscription. Dark frame exhibits minor edge wear.
