ATTRIBUTED GEORGE INNESS AMERICAN FALL LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING - This American Tonalist landscape painting, attributed to George Inness, depicts a serene autumn hillside under an overcast sky, featuring a small flock of sheep grazing along a brown pasture slope amidst bare trees and foreground foliage. Executed in oil on board with a soft, diffused light characteristic of late 19th-century American pastoral scenes, the composition is presented in a heavily molded gilt wood frame. The front of the frame features a small brass gallery plaque inscribed ”GEORGE INNESS” along the lower inner lip. The reverse is fitted with a protective hardboard backing panel secured by metal retainers within a mitered wood frame structure. Barbizon, 1800s, countryside, meadow, vintage, artwork, rustic, scenery, fine art. Dimensions Frame: 17 1/2 x 14 1/2 in. Image: 12 1/2 x 9 in. The measurements are approximate. Condition The painting exhibits a stable surface with fine craquelure throughout, particularly across the upper sky. The paint layer shows yellowed varnish and natural darkening consistent with age, with no apparent paint losses or active flaking visible. The ornate gilt frame displays minor edge wear, scuffs, and light dust. The board is secured with a modern hardboard backing on the reverse.
