JOHN SYER BRITISH RHINE RIVER LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING - A 19th-century British oil on canvas landscape painting by John Syer Sr. (1815–1885) titled ”On the Rhine”. The large composition depicts a sweeping, mountainous river valley with figures tending to traditional wooden boats along the shoreline in the foreground. The artwork is clearly signed and dated ”J Syer 71” in the lower right corner. The painting is housed in a heavy, ornate gilt frame featuring a lower brass presentation plaque with the artist's name and title. The reverse of the stretcher retains a historical paper label from H. Blairman & Sons (London, Llandudno, Harrogate) asserting the work's authenticity. No prominent flaking or active paint loss is visible.
