PIETER ALARDUS HAAXMAN DUTCH GENRE SCENE OIL PAINTING - Pieter Alardus Haaxman (Dutch, 1814–1887). Oil painting on canvas. The artwork depicts a cabinet scene, a man who fell asleep while reading and two children playing with his glasses. Signed and dated 1847 lower left. Frame with name plaque. Pieter Alardus Haaxman was a student of Herman ten Kate at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. He later became a member of the Pulchri studio and Arti et Amicitiae. He is known for portraits and genre works, but he created paintings with a classical look as well.
