1966 THAI VILLAGE CANAL OIL PAINTING SIGNED SAPON PAINTING - A 1966 oil on canvas painting by Thai artist Sapon depicting a traditional Southeast Asian village landscape in Thailand. The mid-century composition rendered with thick impasto depicts a two-story Thai wooden stilt house (ruen thai) along a canal (khlong), complete with two wooden pirogues moored in the water, figures seated on the gangway near hung laundry, and lush surrounding foliage under a soft sky. The painting is signed and dated ”Sapon 1966” in black paint at the lower right corner. The reverse of the wooden frame retains a paper retailer label for ”The Thailand Oriental Art”. The textile matting shows faint discoloration along the lower left edge. The wooden frame exhibits minor surface scuffs and edge wear. The canvas on the reverse displays natural age toning and remains securely mounted to the stretcher.
