BELARUSIAN ABRAM MONOSZON OIL ZAPOROZHIAN COSSACK PAINTING - An original oil on board portrait by Belarusian-Russian artist Abram Monoszon (1914–2003), executed in 1963. The painting features a striking profile of a traditional Zaporozhian Cossack, rendered with expressive, energetic brushwork and heavy impasto that gives the subject's face and prominent mustache a sculptural, tactile quality. The verso of the wooden board is signed in Cyrillic ”Моносзон А.И” (Monoszon A.I.) and clearly dated ”1963” in the upper center. The artwork is presented in a high-quality, heavy gilt wood frame detailed with intricate cast ornamentation, a deep red velvet liner, and an inner gold fillet. The provenance is exceptionally well-documented, having been acquired from Shapiro Auctions in New York; the lot includes the original Shapiro invoice (identifying it as Lot 276) and retains the auction house's inventory tag on the backing. Additionally, a label affixed to the reverse indicates the painting was featured in the 2026 ”Centennial Exhibition: 100 Paintings by Celebrated Jewish Artists” hosted by the Ohio State University Hillel.
