ALEXEI BOBRUSOV SAFARI I RUSSIAN MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE - This original mixed media work by Alexei Bobrusov (Russian, b. 1965), titled ”Safari I, ” was executed in 1996 using tempera and a sculptural paper collage on a heavy substrate. A master of ex-libris and graphic arts, Bobrusov here presents a Surrealist narrative featuring four elongated, pensive figures seated atop a patterned, highly textured, three-dimensional geometric folded structure, a fabric-like element that appears as a collage overlay, riding atop a multi-legged ”human beast.” This creature, partially obscured by a central, accordion-folded white collage ”saddle, ” is rendered with dark, expressive linework, visible in the multi-faceted head with a red snout and numerous walking legs at the base. The whimsical background is populated by floating elephants, a frog, and atmospheric pink and blue orbs, characteristic of the artist's imaginative style. The reverse bears the artist’s handwritten Cyrillic signature, dimensions (140 x 90 mm), and an official stamp from the Ministry of Culture, indicating its provenance and authorized export status.
