ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN ICON OUR LADY OF KURSK - An antique Russian Orthodox icon representing Virgin Mary and Jesus Child in Theotokos of Kursk iconography. Dated 19th century. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with gilding. The central panel is encompassed with images of Prophets and God the Father. Titled in Church Slavonic below. The Kurskaya Korennaya Virgin, Kursk Root Icon of the Sign is an icon of Theotokos of the Sign, apparently painted in the thirteenth century and discovered in a forest near Kursk ca. 1295.
