Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board, enclosed in a chased brass riza or oklad. Inscriptions in Russian on the backside. Vladimirskaya icon is a 12th-century Byzantine icon, an early example of the Eleusa iconographic type and one of the most culturally significant pieces of art in Russian history.
