A PHILIPPINES KATIPUNAN-ERA SWORD - Of Matulis form from Luzon, with horn grip and iron guard. The heavy, handforged blade quite thick at the base of the spine , and cut with a series of grooves at the right forte. Deaccessioned during the 1990s by the Ohio Historical Society (since defunct) to whom the sword was donated by First Lieutenant James W. Van Dusen, an assistant surgeon posted at Vigan in Ilocos Sur during the Philippine-American War from 1899-1901. Late 19th-early 20th century. Worn. Overall length 67.5 cm / 26 1/2”. Condition II
