Bidspirit auction | Japanese Zen Ink Hanging Scroll

Japanese Zen Ink Hanging Scroll - Japanese zen ink hanging scroll of Hotei, Edo to Showa Period. An expressive monochrome ink scroll in the traditional Zen painting style of Hotei (Budai), the beloved Buddhist monk and one of japan's Seven Lucky Gods. The upper-left corner features two hand-stamped red artist seals. Consistant with age, the paper panel shows light horizontal creasing from being rolled, moderate toning, and faint foxing spots. The mounting and silk boarders remain structurally intact. A thin wooden semicircular stave weights the top, while a heavy cylindrical wooden rod anchors the bottom, ensuring the scroll hangs perfectly flat against the wall. Tied to the top stave is a hanging chord to allow the scroll to balance neatly from a single wall peg or hook. Measures approx- 73” x 15”.
