Yamanaka New York 1949 Social Register Carved Jade - Custom Chinese silk brocade cover handcrafted by the legendary East Asian art gallery, Yamanaka & Co., Inc. New York, housing the January 1949 edition of the New York Social Register. Authentic gold foil stamp reading ”Yamanaka & Co. Inc./New York” positioned lower-center of interior. Front cover is centered with a Chinese white/celadon jade (or similar hardstone) medallion featuring hand-carved openwork detailing. Bound in premium Chinese silk brocade fabric with woven pattern of vines and flowers. The January 1949 New York Social Register retains its 36-page recording of addresses, marriages and deaths of Manhattan's elite. Built-in fabric loop on right edge of cover can hold pencil, pen or stylus. Good condition. Minor, expected surface wear along spine edges and corners of cover, commensurate with age. Paper register shows natural age-toning but remains intact and legible. Jade cover insert not sewn to cover. Measures approx. 7.75”Lx6”Wx0.5”H.
