Chinese Bronze Tripod Censers, Foo Dog & Elephant - Two antique Chinese bronze tripod incense burners (censers), dating from late Qing Dynasty to early Republic Period (circa late 19th to early 20th century). One is lidded censer featuring foo dog; other is three-headed elephant open ritual censer. Foo Dog censer: Classic 3-legged tripod ”Ding” vessel, ovoid body. Exterior decorated with intricate cartouche panels in relief depicting songbirds, floral branches (plum blossoms/chrysanthemums) with subtle gilt accents. Twin animal masks (”Taotie” or protector spirits) on shoulder. Dome lid crowned by carved Foo Dog (guardian lion). Interior has brass or gold-colored wash lining. Elephant censer: Heavily patinated bronze ritual censer designed with auspicious elephant motif. Three downward facing elephant heads (”Taixiang”) making up the tripod legs of vessel, with curved trunks as feet. Two handles in elephant-trunk style. Base features swirling cloud/whirlpool pattern. Both in good condition. Some residue on interior wells from use. Hairline crack along edge of lid's rim, minor wear to gilt highlights on foo dog censer. Larger (foo dog) measures approx. 4”Lx4.5”Wx5.5”H.
