Chinese Blanc de Chine Porcelain Foo Dogs Pair - Vintage pair of Chinese blanc de Chine porcelain guardian lions, or foo dogs. Male lion clutching an openwork ball (temari) under right paw, and female lion securing playful cub under left paw. Figures feature articulated manes, snarling expressions and formal ceremonial collars. Seated symmetrically atop matching rectangular relief-molded plinths. Finished in heavy white glaze. In traditional Feng Shui, male lion protects the structure (holding world/ball) and female protects the family dwelling (holding cub). Meant to be displayed at entryway or mantle with male placed on right and female on left side, when viewed looking toward display. Circa mid-20th century, made in China. Very good condition. Normal shelf wear to unglazed undersides, possibly superficial scratches on surface. Each measures approx. 6.25”Lx4.5”Wx11.25”H.
