Sertum Botanicum Lithos (2), Alcott Prints (3)
Five framed pieces of art include a pair of floral lithographs from the book "Sertum Botanicum" from the Collection Choisie de Plantes, dedie a M. La Reine, publiee par Mr. P.C. Van Geel, Bruxelles (Brussels) 1828. On the back of each is what appears to be an original typewritten page (in French) describing each plant. One is Magnolia Speciosa and the other Bromelia Zebrina. As found on the internet "Pierre Van Geel produced the lithographs for this publication, ?Sertum Botanicum?, in 1828 from the drawings of G. Severyns. The publication contained 600 illustrations, the majority of which were ornamental flowering plants recently introduced into cultivation. Unlike most artists of the day who relied mainly on specimens brought to Europe by overseas expeditions, few artists such as Van Geel, ventured abroad to study many of the more exotic flowers, including tropicals, that were up until then rarely captured on paper. Prints from this publication are rare, and feature excellent original hand coloring." Lot also includes three fine Williamsburg reproduction 1732 Alcott Hill Twelve Months of Fruit series prints, with May, June, and November. Largest measures approx. 26.75" H x 21" W.
