Bidspirit auction | Victorian Eastlake Secretary Desk
Victorian Eastlake Secretary Desk - 41.5 x 45 x 14 inches. A late 19th-century side-by-side secretary desk constructed from wood with a dark ebony-toned finish. The piece features a central drop-front desk compartment that opens to reveal an interior fitted with four vertical pigeonholes, two larger open compartments, and a single central drawer with a small brass-toned knob. The drop-front writing surface is inset with a black material featuring brown corner protectors. Flanking the central desk are two vertical cabinets. The left cabinet door contains an arched glass panel with geometric wooden mullions, while the right cabinet door is solid wood with matching arched and linear carvings. Both cabinets are topped by single drawers. The desk is decorated in the Eastlake style, featuring turned spindles, incised geometric patterns, and linear moldings. The piece rests on four turned bun feet. Hardware consists of embossed circular metal knobs on the drawers and drop-front, with small metal turn-latches on the cabinet doors. The interior of the cabinets and the desk reveal a lighter, reddish-brown natural wood grain. No maker's marks or stamps are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces.
