Essanay Copper & Brass Extinguisher - 24 inches tall. An American-made cylindrical fire extinguisher constructed of copper with a prominent riveted vertical side seam and a brass top cap. The top of the unit features a cast brass wheel-style handle. Attached to the front is a large rectangular brass identification plate embossed with the name ESSANAY at the top. The plate includes the text MADE IN U.S.A., SODA AND ACID FIRE EXTINGUISHER, and states it was TESTED TO 350 LBS. It provides functional instructions reading FOR FIRE TURN BOTTOM END UP along with a WARNING section and detailed DIRECTIONS FOR CHARGING and MAINTENANCE. Toward the bottom of the plate, the manufacturer is identified as Pyrene Manufacturing Company, Newark, New Jersey, with additional locations for Atlanta, Kansas City, Chicago, and San Francisco listed below. A secondary brass label positioned near the base is an Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc. inspection tag, reading INSPECTED 2 1/2 GALLON HAND FIRE EXTINGUISHER NO A-609960 CLASSIFICATION A-1. The extinguisher is equipped with a red rubber discharge hose terminating in a black nozzle, secured to the body with a brass elbow coupling and clamp.
