West African Wood Owl Spirit Mask - A hemispherical carved wooden mask featuring a central vertical crest and traditional polychrome decoration. The face is adorned with concentric black-lined arcs surrounding horizontal almond-shaped eye slits. A dense pattern of white stippled dots covers the reddish-brown ground across the entire surface. A narrow vertical nose leads to a protruding rectangular mouth containing incised triangular teeth. The perimeter is pierced with several small holes intended for the attachment of a ceremonial raffia or fiber costume. The reverse side exhibits flat-hewn tool marks and a natural wood patina. A modern white wire loop is affixed to the upper rear for hanging. Measured from the top of the crest to the bottom of the chin, the mask is 9 inches in height.
