American Victorian Oak Rocking Chair - A late Victorian era rocking armchair constructed primarily of oak. The chair features a prominent press-back top rail with machine-pressed decorative foliate and scroll motifs. The back splat displays the distinct medullary rays associated with quartersawn oak. The back is composed of five turned spindles set between fluted stiles, each capped with a stylized acorn finial. The curved armrests feature carved linear detailing at the grips and are supported by turned spindles. The solid wood seat is contoured for comfort. The base includes rockers joined by turned stretchers for structural stability. The wood throughout is finished with a dark, reddish-brown stain. A small rectangular white paper tag with handwritten characters is tied to a back spindle; the characters read 121A over Xew.
