Bidspirit auction | 1899 $1 Black Eagle Silver
1899 $1 Black Eagle Silver Certificate - A United States 1899 series one dollar silver certificate, colloquially known as a Black Eagle note due to the prominent central vignette. The face of the note features a large bald eagle with outspread wings perched on a US flag and shield. Flanking the eagle at the bottom are small portrait ovals of Abraham Lincoln on the left and Ulysses S. Grant on the right. The note is printed with blue ink for the serial number V50313011A, which appears twice, and a blue scalloped treasury seal on the right. The signatures of H. V. Speelman (Register of the Treasury) and Frank White (Treasurer of the United States) are printed at the bottom. The reverse displays a large, ornate green design featuring the word ONE and intricate lathe work patterns. This is a large-size note, significantly larger than modern US currency.
