Bidspirit auction | Bronze Cherub Writing on Tablet

Bronze Cherub Writing on Tablet - 8.5 inches tall. A naturalistic bronze sculpture depicting a winged cherub, also referred to as a putto, in a seated position upon a draped plinth. The figure is cast in a dark brown patinated metal, possibly bronze or brass, shown intently engraving or writing upon a rectangular tablet held against its knee with a stylus. The tablet features four rows of inscribed characters; the top row clearly spells the word AMOR in capital letters, followed by several rows of script-like marks that are not clearly legible as specific words. The cherub is rendered with short, curly hair and feathered wings. The figure sits on a square base designed to resemble draped fabric. No artist signature, foundry mark, or edition numbering is visible on the surface of the sculpture or the plinth. The base is open at the bottom, revealing the hollow nature of the casting.
