Bidspirit auction | American Geometric Patchwork Quilt
American Geometric Patchwork Quilt - 70 x 96 inches. Polyester material. A large, handmade sampler-style patchwork utility quilt constructed from a variety of synthetic and cotton-blend fabrics. The quilt top is organized into three distinct vertical sections. The left column features six ”Diamond-in-a-Square” blocks, each composed of concentric strips of fabric in vibrant shades of pink, blue, green, and orange. The central section consists of a grid of twelve ”Pinwheel” or ”Hourglass” blocks, each formed by four triangles in contrasting color pairings such as navy and white, brown and light blue, and pink and black. The right column is a narrow vertical panel of a multi-colored grid pattern featuring smaller squares in solid and patterned fabrics. The textiles include textured polyester double-knits, common in the mid-to-late 20th century, alongside printed and solid cottons. The reverse side features a simple grid pattern of square fabric scraps in various colors and patterns. The quilt is hand-finished with numerous bright green yarn ties visible on both the front and back. It is bordered with a solid navy blue fabric binding.
