Bidspirit auction | American Salt Glazed Stoneware Bowl

American Salt Glazed Stoneware Bowl - 11 x 4.5 inches. A utilitarian stoneware bowl, commonly known as a dairy bowl or milk pan, featuring a conical form with a flared, thick rolled rim. The exterior is finished with a tan salt glaze, exhibiting characteristic iron spotting and peppering throughout the clay body. The interior and top edge of the rim are coated in a dark, chocolate brown to black Albany-type slip glaze. The bowl stands on a flat, unglazed base that reveals a reddish-orange fired clay body. The underside of the base features four modern protective felt pads, including three circular pads and one rectangular strip. There are no maker's marks, stamps, or signatures visible on the body or base. A small piece of clear tape with a white string is attached to the rim.
