Wrought Iron Betty Lamp with Reflector - 6.5 inches tall. A lidded Betty lamp constructed from dark, oxidized wrought iron or steel. The lighting device features a cylindrical oil reservoir with a protruding wick channel at the base. A hinged circular lid covers the reservoir and opens to reveal a dark, residue-stained interior. Attached to the rear of the body is a tall, vertical upright bracket that supports a large, circular reflector plate. A linked metal chain is attached to the upper portion of the reflector, terminating in a wire hook intended for hanging the lamp from a ceiling joist or mantle. The construction shows signs of early hand-tooling, including crimped edges on the wick spout and simple hinges. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the metal surfaces of the item.
