Maguire Trompe Leoeil Hunting Plaque - 28 x 16 inches. A few minor water spots. A polychrome plaster trompe l'oeil relief plaque depicting a traditional hunting still life. The composition features a central hanging hare suspended by its hind legs, flanked by two game birds, likely partridges or grouse, all shown as hung game trophies. The work is executed in high relief, creating a three-dimensional effect intended to mimic a real taxidermy display. The figures are painted in a naturalistic palette of browns, ochres, and grays. The relief is mounted against a flat background support within an oval aperture. In the lower right area of the oval composition, there is an incised signature reading Maguire. The piece is housed in a rectangular Rococo-style frame with a cream-painted finish. The frame features ornate scrolling acanthus leaf motifs at the corners and along the inner and outer borders, with gilded highlights. The reverse of the plaque reveals the recessed hollow casting of the plaster relief and the unfinished back of the wooden support board. A metal hanging wire is attached to the back of the frame with mounting hardware.
